Automotive EMC Conference |
Q. Who will be organising the Automotive EMC 2004 conference?
A. The organisers are the same people committed to this site (see home page FAQ). The 2004 conference will be chaired by Martin O'Hara, author of "EMC at the Component and PCB Level", an AutoEMC.net member who also organised the 2003 conference.
Q. Will the conference be held annually?
A. The 2003 conference was a great success and it is planned to hold the Automotive EMC conferences annually within Europe. The AutoEMC.net team are looking to run this niche event alongside other more generic EMC events to prevent EMC conference overload and also to enable events to make joint use of resources.
Q. What will happen to any profit if the event is not-for-profit?
A. The conference is expected to make a small profit, this will be used to pay for the presenters' lunch and for any subsequent conference and administration. The AutoEMC.net team will have paid out initially for some of the conference administration (room booking, projector hire) and this will also be repaid from any profit.
Q. Will the conference always be UK based?
A. The conference has been held in the UK and Germany and will always look to alternative between countries if possible, however, in general due to the home base of the organisers, the UK is often the lowest cost location and offers low cost flight connections to most of mainland Europe. Plans for holding the conference outside of Europe are currently not being considered but we would support others wishing to hold similar events in the USA and Asia-Paific regions.
Q. Does there need to be another EMC conference?
A. The organisers support many other EMC conferences as both presenters and delegates, however, few papers on the Automotive field are given at these general EMC events. The field has its own type approval process in Europe ("e" marking) and differs significantly from other commercial fields and test methods. The conference is hoped to become as much an educational vehicle for understanding some of the nuances of Automotive EMC as well as a venue for releasing new design and test techniques for meeting the various Automotive EMC specifications.
Q. Is the conference based on the European "e"-mark standard?
A. No, definitely not, it is intended to cover all worldwide standards if presenters so wish (it will be driven by the paper submissions rather than organiser lead topics). Any US (SAE), Japanese or OEM standards can be presented and discussed. There is also the opportunity for OEM's to publicise their up-issued specifications and to highlight areas they feel are important but might otherwise have been overlooked in some of the international standards.
Q. Who will attend the conference?
A. It is expected that the conference will appeal to electric and electronic circuit designers at automotive OEM and lower tier suppliers, after-market equipment suppliers and EMC test engineers who deal with Automotive EMC.
