A Generic Automotive EMC Specification
At the Automotive EMC 2006 Conference I presented a paper that was an attempt to find a middle way through the many automotive vehicle maker (VM) EMC specifications to get to a consensus series of tests that would meet most of the auto VM's requirements most of the time. At the time of the conference (May 2006) I was unable to complete the work on the specification itself, and since it has been difficult to do this with the usual pressures of regular work and family life. The work was resurrected recently when I was invited to make a similar presentation at the KGS Technofair 2006 (covered elsewhere in this newsletter) and the work progressed a lot in preparation for this event. However, I am conscious of the fact that apart from the feedback I received at these two conferences and some work I have put in myself, the basic standard has not been made open (as was the intention) for scrutiny by the Automotive EMC Community, in particular test houses, tier 1 suppliers and VM's.
Consequently although incomplete and hence only in draft proposal, I have at the insistence of the Automotive EMC Network members made the draft revision available and open for comment.

The specification as it is currently has many holes and these are still "in progress" to complete, however, I would very much welcome feedback on some of the issues the document raises, in particular;
use of only internationally available standards (ISO and CISPR only)
extension of test frequencies to 5GHz in some cases
method used to "fill-in" the omitted bands of CISPR-25
use of quasi-peak limits for narrow band noise from CISPR-25
And of course any other issues you feel this standard raises.
The next stage will be for me to complete the standard into a revision 1 issue, hopefully this will be completed by March 2007 and issued in the next Newsletter. Please forward any feedback to martin@autoemc.net.
