Cape Enters EMC Testing

Cape Engineering UK has acquired the entire issued share capital of EMC Projects Ltd, Ringwood, Hampshire for an undisclosed cash sum. This is the next step in Cape’s business strategy and ensures that Cape remains positioned as the first choice provider for environmental test, FE analysis, hydrodynamics and EMC testing in the UK.

EMC Projects will continue to operate under their existing trading name, with founders Mike Wood and Owen Cockram remaining as directors. Mike Wood will also remain as Technical and Managing Director of EMC Projects. In conjunction with the acquisition of EMC Projects, Cape has also announced that it will commission an EMC test facility at Cape’s headquarters in Warwick to serve the Midlands. This initiative will provide testing capacity from seven EMC screened rooms and four open area test sites (noise and EMC). EMC Projects currently offers a military and commercial EMC testing capability up to 40 GHz. The company operates under UKAS, CAA, FCC, and VCA accreditation and recognition, and is a UK competent and notified body for noise with EMC and R & TTE directives.

“Our customers increasingly require total design solutions,” says Steve Roberts, Cape Engineering UK’s Managing Director. “This means providing more than pass/fail test certification: it means partnership; it means working with customers from the design stage through to market release; and ensuring Cape can provide expert support in every aspect of design validation. With the increase of embedded electronics within almost every area of mechanical engineering, it is essential to provide EMC testing as part of sustaining the leading test service to Cape’s customers.”

Mike Wood, commenting on the acquisition, says: “It’s a natural marriage. Cape and EMC Projects have worked together for many years and have a number of common customers. 65% of our business is repeat business and by joining the expertise of both companies we can offer our customer base expert support in every aspect of the design validation process”.
